Marian McQuade was a woman who was the catalyst for everything. Jimmy Carter and the U.S. Senate both honored her for her efforts to inform young people about the achievements that older people have made in the past. Grandparents Day was formally recognized in the United States in 1978 and in Canada in 1995 as a result of her efforts.
Funnily enough, the Forget-Me-Not, which only grows in gardens and blooms in the spring, is the flower that symbolizes Grandparents Day. It is unavailable in September.
